25 Weeks
I am in the middle of my 25th week. Having carried two boys, I am distinctly aware of how this baby girl is different. I am carrying her MUCH higher, resulting in a loss of breath easier than with the boys. In fact, it was pretty comical when I was reading pages of directions to students a couple of weeks ago--I kept having to pause and catch my breath. So different! But, since she is sitting so high, I just started wearing maternity shirts this week and I can still wear my regular jeans, though probably not for much longer. It is fun to compare how this pregnancy is different. I do think this baby girl will have a lot of hair though! I had the same heartburn with Carter and he had a ton of dark hair when he was born. We will see if the old wives tale holds true.
Ethan's cough is finally starting to subside a little more, plus he has gone without oxygen since yesterday. He did well last night and during his three hour nap today, he didn't need any oxygen. Right now he is doing well, but we need to wait a couple of hours before we make the decision on whether he can sleep the entire night without it.
Last weekend the boys had a birthday party to attend. It was at one of those indoor bouncy places and both boys adored the big slides! We noticed that Ethan's core strength has improved this past year since he was able to hold himself up while he went down the slide. Carter thought this place was the best thing ever! He didn't hesitate to climb up the 18 foot slides and then slide down. Of course, he had no fear at all and felt he was just as old as the other kids.

Alarm clock
For a few days this past week, my little alarm clock has greeted me in the morning. :) Ethan isn't completely off of oxygen quite yet. However, there have been a few nights where we have been able to turn him off of oxygen after four to five hours. He still seems to require oxygen for his naps but it is nice that he seems to be improving. Tonight he was able to go to sleep without any oxygen and he was very happy about it! Most likely he will need it tomorrow during his nap since he doesn't need it tonight. At least there has been progress!

Always remember
I hope to never forget….
The way Ethan says, “thank you Mommy, very much,” whenever I give him something or do anything for him, including wiping his nose or changing his diaper.
Similarly, how Ethan will say, “yes, please,” after I ask him a question even if the question doesn’t require a “please.” (For example, I will say, “Ethan do you have poopy pants?” He will respond with, “yes, please.”
The way Carter sticks out only his lower lip, as if he was pouting, when he gives kisses.
How when Carter can’t see me, he will wander the house shouting “MOM!” as if he had bells on his shoes letting me know his location.
How Ethan tends to leave verbs out of his sentences. May I TV now, please?
The way Carter never keeps his socks or shoes on during car rides.
How Ethan calls yogurt, "yuckert," even though it is one of his most requested foods.
How Carter likes to see if his face will fit through too small places, only to yell, “MOM!”
How Ethan will pretend to snore when we walk into his room...with his eyes wide open and a sly smile on his face.
The way Ethan makes sure Carter has multiple blankets in his crib before each nap.
How two little boys will always remain my babies.

Testing
This week I spent a little over eight hours a day proctoring state tests for our students. It is a very different experience to proctor a test for students who normally work in the virtual world. Thankfully, my mom flew out for the week and watched the boys while I was gone during the day. They were thrilled to have Oma (or, as Ethan calls her, Moma) for an entire week. She was an amazing help because in addition to watching the boys, she also did all the laundry and dishes, cleaned the oven and stove to a shiny new and helped in any way she could. Considering the days were long for both Craig and myself, her assistance was a life saver! And, the boys had a blast having her undivided attention!
Ethan thoroughly enjoyed being back at school this week. We have noticed a verbal explosion with him since he got over his last illness. He no longer seems embarrassed to try new words and repeat what he hears. It has been fantastic to hear. While we truly were hoping Ethan would be completely off of oxygen by now, it is proving to be a slow complete wean. He still requires oxygen at night and during naps. I have deeply missed my morning wake up call, complete with a smiling face about an inch from mine. He is a very obedient little boy and will not take off his pulse ox or nasal cannula when he wakes in the morning. Instead, he will call for me to come get him up. I look forward to waking to his smiling face once he is off of oxygen.
It may take a little longer to come off of the oxygen seeing that Ethan seems to have another cold. Hopefully this one will not result in aggravating the RSV hanging out in his lower lobes. Carter also has another cold as well--poor little man.
The good news is that I got my camera back and Nikon fixed it for free!

Normal
Ethan went all day without oxygen (during waking hours) and did great. He was so excited not to be tethered to a nasal cannula. It is still clear that he needs oxygen at night, but we will take it! He has enjoyed running around again and being able to go upstairs as he pleases.
Yesterday we had an appointment with his pulmonary doctor. I originally booked it last January, but the timing worked out perfectly! I learned that RSV remains in the lower lobes of the lungs for six months. It isn't contagious that long, but since it remains in the lungs, it can reappear and cause more problems. Therefore, Ethan will start up his daily nebulizer again for the next six months in order to help keep any reoccurring problems at bay. His doctor would prefer he used an inhaler instead, but Ethan is petrified of it.
Craig is also completely mended and feeling much better!
